Sufi Healing Circle of Atlanta events ~

Sunday, August 17, 2008, at 2:00 pm:
Dances of Universal Peace led by Beth Rene' Roepnack
Beth Rene' will lead us in Dances from several traditions.  Our gathering will conclude with
Zikr (sacred chanting) led by Elizabeth Leila L'Abate, then a Sufi Healing Circle co-conducted
by Isa Donnie Ray and Hamza Darrell Grizzle.  Everyone is welcome and invited to attend!

The Dances of Universal Peace are simple, meditative, joyous, multi-cultural circle dances that use sacred phrases, chants, music, and movements from the many traditions of the earth to touch the spiritual essence within ourselves and others. Based on the work begun in the late 60’s by Samuel L. Lewis, they promote peace and integration within individuals and groups worldwide. There are no performers nor audience – new arrivals and old hands form the circle together. And, no prior experience is necessary!

Pursuing the Sacred:  The Inner Vision Quest
An experiential workshop with Musawwir Phillip Gowins from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm
with Saturday Evening Zikr from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

All mythologies and cultures include tales of magical journeys
of discovery and transformation.  Are spiritual quests now outmoded
or impractical?  In this workshop, we will explore what it means to
pursue the sacred as we go about the ordinary tasks of our everyday
lives.

Mussawir Phillip Gowins is co-founder of The Inner Voice, a
spiritual center in Pennsylvania.  He is a healing conductor, a trained
spiritual and retreat guide, a Minister of the Universal Worship Service,
and a long-time esoteric teacher.  His book, The Sovereign Soul, a
guide to the Sufi Path in the modern world, has been published by
New Paradigm Books.

The workshop and zikr will be held in Sharpsburg, GA, about
30 minutes south of downtown Atlanta.  The Workshop will include
lunch.  Tea and dessert will be served following Zikr.  Please contact
Muhasaba Molly Wender at 404-256-1853 or e-mail mollyywender@bellsouth.net for information, directions, and reservations.

A $65 fee for the workshop and $5 donation for the evening Zikr is requested.
Reservations Respectfully Requested for Workshop and/or Zikr.

Pir Zia's Visit to Baroda, India:
When Pir Zia returned from India in March 2005 he spoke in a Sunday class at The Abode about his experience of pageantry in Baroda. He was inspired by the combination of sacred religious ceremony, community creativity and involvement, the gaiety and excitement of the event, and its cultural richness. That talk is ready for you to download or listen to on your computer. Please go to this link:  http://mail.sufiorder.org/~pirtalks/BarodaVisit.html
This is not a private link. Please feel free to share this with anyone you think might be interested. This is a downloadable audio file (37 minutes and 22 seconds long) in mp3 format.
